A master of comedy with puns that will have you in stitches, Munya Chawawa has become one of the most promising young comedians to come from the social space. In the process, he’s also become an addictive source of social commentary, critiquing everything from Theresa May through to Love Island and Jamie Oliver’s jerk rice escapade - all in character.
Using Instagram as his platform of choice, Chawawa’s developed a plethora of nuanced personalities we can’t help but love to watch. From Theresa May's dance tutor - Ivan Donceubit, through to the utterly despicable tabloid journalist - Nigel Smunt and the UK's first posh drill rapper - Unknown P, his satirical and self-produced videos have led to an impressive roster of characters and several viral moments. He’s won support from publications across the board including Buzzfeed, The Metro and Complex Magazine and even gained approval from those featured in his videos, including rap behemoths Giggs & Stormzy. Virgin EMI, Warner and Island Records have all collaborated with him on his channel’s content.
While Chawawa has found a home on his Instagram for brilliant and diverse characters, outside of this he is also an established presenter, having hosted on Reprezent Radio for the past four years. Chawawa has gone on to host a regular slot on 4Music's live entertainment show 'Trending Live' and has also appeared on BBC One, E4, The BRIT Awards and Radio 1Xtra. He’s worked on a variety of projects with brands such as Nike, Adidas, Lovebox Festival, Wireless and Nandos, whether that be radio presenting, hosting panels or holding special broadcasts, demonstrating his versatility and deep passion for live work.
Coming up in the same school of DIY, highly skilled and multifaceted talents such as Chicken Shop Date’s Amelia Dimoldenberg and the now iconic Kurupt FM, Chawawa sees his career developing in the same way - transitioning to more traditional broadcast television, developing his sketches into longer formats and expanding upon his brand work to include full-scale campaigns. But at the root of everything will always be his ability to get closer than comfortable to whatever the zeitgeist is.
