20-year-old Curtis Kelly has become an unlikely but much-loved influencer since he launched his Instagram channel at the beginning of 2019 - and it’s for a reason you may not expect for a man in his early twenties. The Belfast born and raised creator has established himself a firm and growing fanbase, for his love of cleaning which he showcases on his Instagram using the handle @cleanwithcurtis. Curtis shares his top tips for everyday sparkle and shine throughout the home, as well as his favourite products (Mr Sheen, if you’re asking) and brands - and the followers continue tallying up. He counts Mrs Hinch and Lindsey Queen of Cleaning amongst his 20K+ fans.
His online story began after a life-threatening accident forced him to reassess his mortality. While working as a care assistant for end of life dementia patients, he fell off a ladder putting up Christmas decorations and fractured his spine in three vertebrae. Doctors told Curtis there was a chance he would never walk again.
Thankfully, he recovered, but, back home in recovery, and with little to occupy his mind, he began his channel, and quickly picked up press interest. His followers grew from 0 to 12K in 30 days. After receiving messages of encouragement from his new fans, he decided to focus his efforts on building out the channel. “I really love the thought that I am helping to motivate people with similar circumstances to me,” he says on what drives him to create every day. “Cleaning really helps with my anxiety and when I feel low.”
Part of Curts plans for his future includes working for television as the personable and extremely lovable personality would love to front home makeover shows, as he understands how cleaning can help change people’s lives around.
